Flamingos MOS1 - First Meeting of the Signatories to the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of the High Andean Flamingos and their Habitats

The Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of High Andean Flamingos and their Habitats was concluded in 2008 and has been signed by the authorities of Bolivia, Chile and Peru. The MOU includes two species, the Andean Flamingo (Phoenicoparrus andinus) and the Puna Flamingo (Phoenicoparrus jamesi) which are both globally threatened and included in appendices I and II of CMS. The main threats to these species are the degradation of high Andean wetlands and the impact caused by human activities   such as freshwater contamination and overexploitation of ground water.

In August 2013 a meeting took place in Antofagasta (Chile) to elaborate an Action Plan associated to the MOU. The First Meeting of Signatories (MOS1) will take place in the city of Cusco (Peru) the 26-28 April 2016, at the kind invitation of the government of Peru. The meeting will take into consideration the draft action plan prepared in Antofagasta and also other issues related to the coordination of the MOU and the conservation of high Andean wetlands.

The official language of the meeting will be Spanish.
